Besides the strong interest he took in me, and in my future in the arts, we also became close personal friends. In spite of that, I still kept him on a pedestal, which I didn't completely realize until his health declined and I was told that he had listed me as one of about 10 people whom he was comfortable with as a caregiver once he became unable to take care of himself. When that time came and I started spending every Friday at home with him, I had to make a conscious effort to keep in mind that I was there because he saw me as a peer. I also had to realize that it was OK for part of him to remain on the pedestal I'd put up for him.

edith: describe the pedestal you put your friend/ gallery owner on (i am learning towards this object the most as it did not really exist) send a drawing if it is too difficult to describe with words, height, style, shape, material, etc.
paul: The pedestal, hmmm. I guess because putting someone on a pedestal is a figure of speech I'd never really visualized it as an object. What's coming to mind now that you've asked though is something about chest high to me, and sort of a greco-roman style and probably gold, although I guess if HE had been allowed to design the pedestal as an object it would probably have been a bright green cube maybe, or it might have been covered with reflectors, it could even have been a large tree stump.
