With the noisy swirl of a hot baking city and the fraying nuances of relationship stories whirling cerebrally, I piled into the car... loaded it up with petrol, chucked it into gear. Driving the long ever-ending stretch of Nullarbor desert that stretches across Australia, the nights become days become nights. The red dust swirls. Cars drive fast but the landscape stands still. Ancient limestone cliffs sheer drop to aquatic icy waters below. Aboriginal children hoon bouncily around on trucks. Scrubby trees turn into bushes turn into gritty sand. Each morning the sunrise warms the body, and each evening the sunset calms. Warm soul-enriching heat warms the body and strung out city pores relax, and what's true becomes real.
