1. April, 1984: I stay in a bed and breakfast for the first time, in Santa Barbara, and learn about Henry's Beach.
2. October, 1984: As was my habit then, I go to Disneyland by myself and ride the train listening to the Reagan-Mondale debate.
3. November, 1984: Reagan is re-elected; I'm at the Beverly Center watching the Mercedes and Cadillacs line up in the parking structure and I say to them all: "I quit".
4. On Thanksgiving day, an elderly driver turns in front of me and the collision results in my car being "totaled" on paper.
5. December, 1984: I find a magazine on Portugal in the lounge of the unit in which I work and I give notice on my job and arrange to visit the Algarve using the funds from the other party's payment for my car.
